Getting on with business

  • By Practice4Sale Staff Writers
I read with interest an article which listed 3 ways to "move yourself forward". The article stated "Every business owner gets stuck occasionally on an idea or problem" and listed 3 ways to get "unstuck" as:
  1. Support group
  2. Get advice
  3. Research - Read

In this blog, while taking the lead from the article, we look at the ways you can get your practice moving along: ideas to help you achieve your business and personal goals.

1. Join, or get better use from, your Support Groups
Many of us belong to various industry and professional associations.

They can provide connections, mentorship, and innovative ideas.

If you feel you are "stuck", consider reviewing the information distributed by your support groups to gain insights into the outlook and opportunities in your profession. Also consider becoming more active in industry events and conferences to 'solve your dilemma'.

It is surprising how often the answers to your questions have already been canvassed by others.

2. Get independent and experienced Advice
Business coaches, consultants and other advisers are critical whenever you feel that you have reached a 'stalemate'.

However, your advisers should be independent and experienced in your profession as well as perhaps the business issue(s) you are confronting. There are many self proclaimed experts, ensure you rely on wise counsel.

If appropriate to the nature of the issues you are confronting, consider making a regular session part of your diary. Maybe you could also consider an advisory board which includes your advisers?

3. Do some research. Read a good Book
Do your homework. Get inspiration and ideas from a good book and range of sources.

The internet is a great research source. With many ideas and reference sources now available on-line. You may also wish to consider webinars, seminars, and events which address the issues you are confronting.

Ultimately, it is your practice and you need to take action to resolve the matter as well as establish new processes for better practice management.

What techniques do you use to solve an impasse? How do you avoid procrastination and get things done?
