The following steps provide some tips and techniques for employees to improve your job confidence:
- Identify Your Achievements;
- Seek Feedback;
- Identify Your Strengths; and
- Identify Opportunities.
Identify Your Achievements:
Often we become caught up in the day-to-day motions and lose sight of the achievements we have had to date. At regular intervals, take stock of your achievements and identify positive steps you have taken in your career. As you recall your achievements, acknowledge the feedback you received when you performed a task well. Realise that these achievements were the result of your efforts. Do this on a regular basis and your confidence in your ability will increase.
Seek Feedback:
Your colleagues and superiors will often be able to provide you with feedback regarding the effect your employment has had on their work environment and business outcomes. Take a moment to seek their feedback and identify your strengths and areas which you can continually improve. Re-affirmation can re-enforce your achievements and provide renewed confidence.
Focus on Your Strengths:
While you should spend time identifying areas of improvement, it is important not to lose sight of your strengths. Consider what you are doing well at work and focus on continuing to do these things well. By re-enforcing what you do well, and continually achieving positive outcomes with this behaviour, your job confidence will improve.
Identify Opportunities:
Everyday there is a new opportunity to challenge you. Start looking for these opportunities and proactively seek out ways in which they can have a positive impact on the business. Ensure that what you are perusing is in line with the business objectives; but what better way to boost your confidence then to relish in the success of achieving an outcome based on your own initiative.
So if you're feeling flat in your current job, have lost the confidence and drive you once had, take some action to turn these feelings around. Remember the things you do well, remember the reasons why your work colleagues can rely on you and re-invigorate your position by extending your challenges. And at every stage, realise that self-confidence is imperative to your success and ensure that you are feeling confident.
